Holiday & Heritage Month - Native American Spolight - Joni Stinson

Hey Family, It's been a while since I posted for this particular blog series but I haven't forgetten!

Some of the fellow Native American Etsy artists are either a bit shy or really really busy at the moment for a intervew but have given me the ok to feature their beautiful work. Today's artisan:

Joni Stinson
Nation: Creek-Cherokee
Location Nebraska
Etsy Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/jstinson

Please accept my invitation to take a personal spirit journey through my store. Ghi-Goo-ie is my great great great great great great Grandmother's name. She was also the Grandmother of John Ross, Principle Chief of the Cherokees in the mid 1800's. Ghi-Goo-ie translates from Cherokee to "Sweet Heart".

My designs combine traditional Native American techniques with contemporary elements, colors and materials. My work is symbolic and exemplifies my passion for my Nation and my art. My work is made in accordance with THE INDIAN ARTS AND CRAFTS ACT OF 1990, P.L. 101-644. This Act prohibits the use of "Native American" in the sale of products unless one is a citizen of a U.S. recognized Indian Tribe

In addition to my work, my store periodically features works from other members of our small collective. This includes the wonderful dolls by Peggy MacKenzie, Wolf Clan Seneca and Mohawk, inlay jewelry by Ernestine Ortiz, Santo Domingo, and Ray Sabourin, wood carver. Joni Stinson, Creek-Cherokee, is a beadweaver, jewelry designer and silversmith. She teaches beading at Blue Earth Intertribal in Omaha,Ne. Joni has been invited by the United States Department of Interior to participate in their National Park Service's "Artist in Residence" program. She sells her work at Pow Wows, Craft Shows, Galleries, and on-line.
