Balance- Moving On.....

It's never easy to leave something you worked so hard to achieve behind. I loved the freedom having my own place gives me as a young mother and an artist..but after four yrs of living here it is time to move on..

Like most people, I have good and bad memories within these walls. On the positive, this is where I started working from home, where I brought home and started raising my youngest child, held my first holiday celebrations as a family on my own, saw my oldest child go to her junior prom with her first date...the laughter,,the creative freedom..the awesome hardwood floors LOL;)

Well, the walls have been freshly painted, and the floors swept and cleaned. This pic is where my home office was located in the foyer the desk is being taken apart to load into the truck easily. I spent many a night till the wee hours working in this area. All the crafting, packing, wrapping and sewing. I'll miss watching my youngins from above the sunk in living room playing while cooking dinner or finishing up some emails before bedtime.

Sigh, I am really going to miss this place, but the rent has become just too high to keep it.

The Balance is simple: With progress comes change, a better opportunity awaits..look to the future and learn from your past so you can apply the wisdom's kept to your present.

Balance- Mind Mapping

I took a moment to think about my progress so far with my new business. It's been a blessing to gain 10 sales and plenty of new fans on my Facebook to interactive with. But I am also experiencing my disappointments- I am not at the level of progress that I need to be- it's deeper than that.

Even after almost 3yrs of having one source of income that does not come from a 9-5 outside environment is still quite a challenge to make successful. I sat down and thought about "Who are you? why did you start this new shop? what are you trying to accomplish?

In answer.I thought of my shop name-it is literally my mantra for all the I am doing-

Grace-The Swan
Balance -The River
Strength-The Stone

I didn't really keep these elements forefront in my mind when I FIRST started Nyblaque- I was just a desperate newly single mom trying to find a way to feed my kids.Nyblaque is still evolving-but, SRS is different - it is the way I want to run a business and my life: focused, enjoying life and it gifts, making a difference somehow making things that represent what I care about. Crafting with elements completely handmade -enjoy their natural beauty, artwork, spirituality-earth friendly.

But, I admit I have lost a little focus- fell into the"popularity trap" worrying about how many fans I have, feeling behind with the competition. For example- I looked back at my early blog posts and then the knew ones--what happened to the Balance, The Strength-even the Grace- it was lost to sales ads, and the like--That's not the mantra.

I will not going backwards....I found inspiration today.
MommytheMarketer wrote a blog post that really spoke to my mantra:
BLOG BRAINSTORMS and FACEBOOK FIASCOS
It is not the title that spoke to me--it was the idea of Mind Mapping- it's like when I used to write poetry and free write -just pick a topic and then jot down anything that came to mind. Mind Mapping basically helps you to"free write" your thoughts , which become ideas, which turn into goals-then become your focus to make them happen in real time for you.

So many this may read this, roll their eye and go "duh that's a no-brainer" but really, who hasn't LOST focus- got caught up in the "trends" or pressure to sell as a business, indie or not at least once. Who as a work at home mom-hasn't felt the pressure to pay bills on time with no revenue coming in--or worried about time management..even if it's an easy idea to Mind Map--it not always easy to discipline yourself to execute Consistently!

After reading this post- I found myself at the River(unbalanced) for me, this is the most important element of my mantra- without it everything falls apart. I have devoted this weekend to meditation and Mind mapping. no, photos, no crafting..it has no purpose it your mind is not right.

If you are in the same boat--remember your mantra--read articles like MommytheMarketer has created and re-focus. You'll be glad you did.
Just something I wanted to share with you. Thanks for visiting.
BTW- it's funny how this is happening to me when Easter is tomorrow and Spring is upon us---coincidence or is someone of a higher power trying to tell me something?

Happy Easter/Passover to you...

Restoring Balance for a Minute ...or Two

 Hey Family,

I have so much to tell you guys...but it's been an exhausting two weeks. First, I see I havw bew followers-Peace & Blessings-welcome to my blog;-)

For those of you who have been reading my blog the past two years I overdid it....AGAIN;-). Sewing bags, volunteering, working the shop, working out, keeping up with the kids....I'm spent.

That's is the only thing about me sometimes- when I get tired  I am really fatigued. But I love to stay busy and feel productive and the results are so rewarding.

But I won't bore you with all that...I did lose now 8 pounds this week. and those drafty windows are fixed. and I sold 2 necklaces and a pair of earrings at HeartsforHaiti and sold two earrings from my own Handmade4Haiti section in my shop and made 20 bags all by myself and donated the bags and the money  to the Red Cross

I am healing my body with Hatha Yoga. I love Yoga. I'be been doing alot of heal praying for the people of Haiti and for anyone in need of it every night in my "spiritual corner" channeling my ancestors for guidance.

I'll be blogging again soon- give me a few days to recharge. I'll be back

Be well, namaste. shalom, peace;-)

Simple Sunday- Yes I am a Tree Hugger-Literally;-)

This is one of my best nature friends Old Willie- He is one of the many old Willow tree we have in our neighorhood. I love his long trendeling brances that reach all the way to the ground. Oh yes, Willie has seen alot of action in his prime- but most recently the top portion of his trunk had to be cut off after he was struck by lightning.

Old Willie is a big tree still but man, before the strike his branch span was HUGE!!!!! It's ok Old Willie has given me plenty of shelter in the summer and gentle breezes in the Spring.. I have meditated many times under his sheltering care and even came home with a few leaves in my hair;-)
Just something simple I wanted to share.  Love you, Willie;-)

Hug a Tree Today;-)

New York's State of Mind- September 11th,2001

Image from http://massfatality.dna.gov/
They say New York is the city that never sleeps..it is also the city that never gave up.
Sure we stood still for what seemed like days but was only hours.Yes, we shut down our airports, buses and trains.
We did things we have never EVER done ..like stand in horror and watch the signature of our city fall.
We cried tears we never thought we had in us, felt fear we never knew existed.
We saw death like we NEVER want to see again, and felt pain that will never heal right.
It's the day NY stood still.
It was also the day NYC came together..beyond the bright lights , fashion avenue, fame and international brew ha.All that didn't mean squat that day.
It's the day we opened doors to everyone, every limo, truck, cab and carriage carpooled and every five star hotel became free shelter.
Where food and water was free to anyone who needed it, and strangers became friends. Where working cell phone minutes become every one's bill to share to tell a loved one "I'm ok"
Where EVERY shoulder was there to cry on, and you were free to wipe each others tears. Where hugs were in abundance and religions united for protection and understanding.
Class, race, status, age, sex---What was that to a New Yorker that day??...you were a survivor, a helper, a prayer, a healer, a friend, a feeder, a human being who needed you.
I will never forget the day NY stood still..but its spirit was the strength that made her move again.
My 9/11 Experience.
I used to work for a temp agency located right across from the South Tower. I would pick up my paycheck every tuesday. On that Tuesday, September 11th I had a job interview in the borough on Queens, I was lucky.
That morning, I watched the first tower burning post impact as I was riding the #7 train across the 59th street bridge from mid-town Manhattan to Long Island City, Queens,..by the time the train pulled into the queens station, the second towers has been hit and NYC shut down.
I watched from the 59th street bridge as both towers fell, I watched the foot traffic from mid town pour into Long Island City, the street filled with anguish, screaming and fear as F-16's engines flew over the city...
That afternoon, there were restrictions to cross any inter-borough or suspension bridges out of fear the bridges were sabatoged. I took my chance and give my faith to God and crossed by foot, against the incoming flow and the eyes of watching police officers back into Manhattan ..knowing I could have been arrested, I took my chances.
I took off my 2.5 inch heels, got two bottles of water..called my mother to let her know I was ok.. She was hysterical..I took my courage from within me.
Despite the uncertainty , the unbelievable vulnerability I felt..I never gave in.
I took off my stockings and walked barefoot from 59th Street and Lexington Ave, crossed the 59th and the 138th street bridges to the Bronx. It took 5 hours,30 minutes and 56 seconds.
Why?? well, a mother's love knows no limits, a mother's strength knows no bounds. I had a daughter who was in school crying for me. I was going to get to her somehow.
I finally got to the bronx, with blistered feet, thighs badly chaffed, and throat sore in 90 degree heat....but by God I was ALIVE- with my daughter was in my arms and my mother at peace. I went upstairs, prayed for those lost till I cried myself to sleep.
I will never forget. Remember 9/11,

Motivational Monday -Ten Ideas you can do to handle your busy schedule

I was just chatting with another great indie jewelry designer EmbellishEverything about our "to do lists" and getting organized. Then I had an "AHA" moment and remembered this post I wrote back in February.

You can take from this list whatever applies to you. I hope it helps.

1. Take a deep breath.

2. Close your eyes, exhale...feel the release.

3.Open your eyes

4. Say thank you for another day(afternoon, evening) to your higher power( God, Allah, Yahweh, etc. if you have religion or a spiritual faith system)

5. wraps your arms around yourself...and say " Thank you for being you, I love you.

6.If you have children, go hug or kiss( if sleeping) if not kids find your loved one, if just you , do it again!!

7.Write a small to do list..Focus on a least one thing you need to do and do it..just that one. Once you finish, stop and say. Thank you, I knew I would get this done. Then go down the list one thing at the time.... pace yourself.

8. IF you couldn't get something(s) done..IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE DONE..and save it for tomorrow's list. No failing, no beating self up..YOU CAN"T DO EVERYTHING! With the demands of society, for some this is the hardest pill to swallow. If someone complains- which at least one person usually does-..say to yourself,"I did the best I could" If it's your boss- apologize..but forgive yourself because if you put your best effort at it, then you did all you could and were meant to do.

9. DO something funny at least 3x during the day..I mean something so funny you crack up for a while from it. This is a natural stress reliever and it works!

10. Feel accomplished at the end of day... close your eyes with a smile, rest.. do it again tomorrow:)

Hmmm, that's more than Ten..but who's counting lol!!

What's got you motivated today???

Be Well,

Ny

Vacation- Time to Water My Spiritual Garden

Zen Garden at the Red Door Hotel

Hello Family,

How are you? What have you been up to lately? It's been quite a while since I last blogged. Writer's block and exhaustion is to blame. I've had so many things on my plate that it finally spilled over into a chaotic mess. It's hard to but into words without sounding down what's really been going on...For example..blogging used to be fun,, but after a while it felt like a popularity contest to keep folks interested.

The truth is I am just a single mom with two kids who was trying to make ends meet doing what I love..crafting. But, love is sometimes not enough, and it seems I may have to supplement it with another element to keep me and my family afloat.

So I decided to take a little vacation till May from Etsy and Artfire.I have gone back to researching how to get back into the workforce ...and maybe even relocation to another state. I hope to come to a decision soon as my lease runs out in July but I have until May 31st to renew the contract..not to mention accepting the rent increase from $1127 per month to $1150.

The good thing is I have more free time to spend on my hands ....but I am stumped as to what to blog about. So I created a poll with some suggestions. Please take a few seconds to cast your vote or leave a comment with a suggestion..I'm open for new ideas.

I see my "family" has grown a bit and the comments are more frequent ( THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT!!!) so I want to keep growing WITH you. I'm learning more things from you and yes, admittedly loving the attention ;-)Thanks for sticking with me and I wish a very happy and Blessed Easter to those who celebrate. and a peaceful Sunday.

Ok, now I am losing my typing hands as my son just woke up and wants my attention. Leave a comment if you'd like with your blog address so folks can see what your up to! Like I say in my beginning and ending greeting..we're family and families share. I don't mind if you post a link to your lastest blog post in the comment box... as long as it's not spam!!

Till next time:

Namaste means:'The inner light in me greets the inner light in you " It's another cool way to say PEACE.

Be Well Fam,

Ny

Hey Family

Hey family, I hope ya'll don't mind me saying that . It's a term of affection that we commonly use within the community where I live in our places of worship amongst our friends, family and people we share a common interest with. I wanted to extend this term to my readers, those that are passing through, avid bloggers etc.. because we all have share something in common very much like a ..well, family.

We all as a people, have a need to connect , learn, teach, experience, laugh and even cry sometimes..and "blogging" has become or..can be one of those tools to do these things and more right from the comfort of our own homes. I felt the need to share this with you today just because, and I hope you enjoy blogging today.

Be Well Family,

Ny

I feel the love, right on time!

“LOVE YA” award winner!
These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who can choose eight more and include this text into the body of their award.

Tackyhandmade at Etsy.com was so kind to give me a "Love ya Award" I am literally in tears just for the recognition behind it. I can't tell how this came right on time as I was going through those "low" points that I used to blog about..but I wanted to take my blog in a different direction and focus on motivating and inspiring others as best as possible..yes I am struggling against discouragement cause sales haven't come in over a weeks while it has for other...I still push.

and yes with the CSPIA, the "Stimulus Effect" as I call it and the pressure of low finances and increasing debt stress me, I am helping and donating to those less fortunate than me, now three charities under me..I am putting my hand in and fighting the good fight as we all need each other!

Thank you Tacky! I love you too;-) and all of you who support me, follow me, feature me... Thank you from my heart.
