Creativity- A rare find.

You all know how much I LOVE working with peacock feathers, I had the sheer luck of obtaining a few RARE white peacock feathers! wow;-)!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaGXoJJ1Vqw Video by Seagirlcat @ youtube.com

I haven't been able to behold the delicate beauty and grace of this amazing creation in so long. I feel truly honored to obtain them. Of course these are american farm raised and animal cruelty free. Since peacocks generally shed from 120 t0 160 feathers per season(post mating) you can see why these are extremely hard to find.

I will only have 6 pairs of earrings to offer due to the rarely of this color of feather, which by the way is not really albino but a rare mutation which make the feathers white;-) it is still in the family of Indian Blue Peafowl.

Creativity -a Man's touch

Recently, I have gotten a growing inquiry of men jewelry from past customers at craft fairs that purchased from me. I used to love making men's/unisex jewelry as it sold very well at street fairs and during the time I was as outdoor vendor but it didn't do so well online.

I am seeing a small spite in interest from women who want to purchase items for the man in their live and a few direct requests from the guys themselves. It's awesome! I found some lovely bohemian and ethnic beads and woods to work with. Most guys I have talked to still lean toward dark earthy colors like reds, blue, greens, and browns.

The tops favorite colors in jewelry are still black, silver , gun metal, a little gold and very very neutral white.

I look forward to making some more creations soon. thanks for visiting.

Sea Glass Galore

I am excited about these beach glass pieces
at first I thought beach/seas glass was some kind of sediment of sea floor, sea salt and pigments from the coral reef. I thought that collecting them harmed sea the sea environment.
not at all!!! Sea glass-also known as beach glass or mermaids tears, is actually NATURES's way of recycling tossed glass bottles and glass based products that were dumped in the oceans many years ago--way before recycling became a campaign or law.

I can't wait to show you what I make with them...stayed tuned.

Namaste,

A.

Freetime Frenzy..Weekend Work

Hey Family,,, Pass me a tissue please.............

My eldest child came home with a brilliant cold..and guess who it was passed to..unintentionally of course. Yup, yours truly..now I am fighting to get rid of it fast so my toddler doesn't get it.

My best friend gave me a break today and took my baby to the Children's Museum while the big one spent time with best friends all day...So I had the whole afternoon to myself...wooo hoo! Though I feel kinda bummed because I wanted to go to the Red Cross today;-(

You would think I'd crawl under the covers and pass out but nooooooooooooooooo, I went bonkers and started crafting lol! I grabbed whatever bead or bauble that caught my eye and made a bunch of earrings and necklaces.at least 50 pieces! Something I never get to do with the children here without staying up half the night LOL! This post would be insanely long if I listed then all so here are the pieces I was able to photograph with the lighting that was available.

Earthy

Spring

Spice

and I finished two custom orders

That's just SOME of the simplier pieces I worked on. All the earrings I made will be donated to the Handmade4haiti section of my shop.

Coming up Monday:.. My idea to make bags for Haiti Relief....stay tuned;-) Ok, I am going to pass out now;-) Night.

Ny at work in her favorite shirt :)- Update

Today is the fourth day of Kwanzaa, Today's principle: Ujamaa (oo-JAH-mah)(Cooperative Economics). Desired action- helping build and maintain profits and entrepreneurship, and economic self-sufficiency within the community. When I originally posted this blog, I wrote about a young woman I met a festival named Esra and her family. Esra had opened a small clothing boutique in the Bronx and was looking to add handmade jewelry to her shop. She also imports beautiful fair-trade bone, glass, semi and shell beads from the Congo that she uses for her clothing designs, with tons left over unused.

As part of contribution to Ujamaa in my daily life, I did sell her unused beads in my old destash shop on Etsy last year and Esra sold special collection of my hammered earrings in her boutique. Unfortuately the economic woes of 2009 proved to be a difficult first year for Esra so her store front was closed and her husband took over the property to expand a new branch for his already established travel agency.

I took these picyures of me creating some pieces tonight for Esra at the time.

It's so peaceful to sit in my room with my portable table and just hammer away comfortably. The pair I was making in these pics was my personal pair. Thats the only time I don't use gloves.

The tee shirt I am wearing I purchased from ZeCe Designs at Etsy.com
Consciousness - Hand screen printed women's ringspun cotton
As you can see I am a "big girl":) lol, but this shirt ( Size XL) fits me comfortably easy to wash and wear and 100% ring spun cotton that feels great on my sensitive skin. I am very happy to find great quality shirts that fit perfectly for my size.

Zece
means "Ten" in Romanian, and Diana & Alfonso are the perfect "10" couple behind Zece Designs with an awesome selection of screen printed tees for men and women. Please check out Diana's oil painting art shop as well http://zecearts.etsy.com/ :)

Ethnic Awesomeness-New Listings from Ny

Hey Family!

I haven't listed anything new from my shop lately so I just wanted to drop a quick blurb of my upcoming listings I will be posting tonight in my Etsy shop: These black peacock feathers are hott! I love the almost raven /off black color of them. These are excellent quality synthetic feathers that have been bleached, then dyed a nice off black/deep navy teal color.

I love the almost raven /off black color of them. These are excellent quality synthetic feathers that have been bleached, then dyed a nice off black/deep navy teal color. The dye is semi-colorfast so it can run just a little bit when in contact with warm/hot water but it is a long lasting hue.
You will find these in sample pair of two, sets of four and sets of 8.

The Weeks in Review

Hey Family,
just wanted to stop in and show you a few of the things I've been doing for the past few weeks- I have more to post but right now I'm on dial up at my mom's house and uploading is a chore!I finish the rest on Tuesday.
First, I made 10 pairs of Rose Quartz earrings for a Texas bride, and 8 Calla Lilly Necklaces for a Colorado wedding last week.

Finished the Mother of Pearl earrings for the New York Bride this week.. She choose style 1, I liked style 2;-) but it's not MY wedding now is it?? lol!!

Spent some time with the local wildlife- these Canadian Geese have long stopped migrating to the South for decades after the locals started feeding them.
Don't worry they still nibble on all the grass here -trust me we see how well they are eating by the - umm - "presents " they leave behind lol..great fertilizer though ..ok, that's gross;-P

moving on....I helped pull some weeds from a neighbors floral garden

Made some more new jewelry, you know I just HAD to make some feather earrings in purple! Sold the first pair a few hours later. You can find all these new pieces in my Etsy shop

I choose a new wood background for my new and older listings. Gotta re-do your pictures sometimes to keep them fresh.

These acrylic leaf earrings are my favorite. They remind me of the changing of leaves in Autumn.

I've been hearing my use of natural elements make my pics too busy and distracting. Maybe, maybe not..but I love to use natural elements in my pictures. I just can't ..no, wait WON"T do the one color/plain background. It's just not me. The color, textures, seasons, ..all these things I think about when i make a piece or photograph them because these are the elements that inspire me.

From the cotton in our shirts, flowers and trees, the slight breeze,to the metal in our chairs, or the wood bench , patio or tables where we sit. Nature makes us beautiful every day.
How was your week??
Thanks for visiting,

My Feathers made it to Etsy's Front Page! --Well, Sort Of;-)

Hey Family!

After recovering from my son's birthday party yesterday, I woke up to find I caught his cold LOL!! So as i am sitting at my desk all dazed and congested. I almost fell out my cahir to see that my Blonde Feather earrings were chosen as an Alternative Front page treasury item!

Now, it may not be a big whoop for many but for me, the fact that one of my items may have actually graced the front page ,let alone been choosen as a back up is HUGE. All the hard work I have been making on improving my pictures seems to really be paying of. I copied the widget from Craftcult.com

I love The CraftCult.com-The Vault feature, where yu can browse through Etsy's old Front Page Treasuries any time you want. Very cool tool.
