My moment of Silence begins today......

As a native New Yorker and witness to the horrific events of 9/11, the first 48 hours here in NYC before 9/11 changes. It is an energy I have never known NYC to have. The hustle and bustle still flourishes but it is a sad energy, anxiety, anger , tension, it is solemn. We all look at each other differently..we remember without speaking, the pedestrian, the food vendor, the transit worker...we all feel it. Some of us still cry in the street, some of us still come up to those who are crying...we don't have to know each other ..we still care.

As the "Beaming Towers" stretch to the sky every night from the WTC location. They seem to shine a little brighter and stronger the days before 9/11. It is as if the souls of the departed are present and let us know we are here, those of us who believe in God they say "We are ok..do not fret God is taking care of everything"

To me ,The Twin Towers were the most beautiful buildings of NYC. they were a big part of the navigational lessons my mom taught me to help me get around the city on my own. They were the first structure I would looked for whenever I went out of town ..the moment I saw them, I knew I was home again. Call me biased but the Towers 'made " the skyline of NYC famous..no other city skyline looked like ours.

To know that day I would not be here to tell the tale, because GRACE would have it that I had a job interview in Queens and didn't have to go to an interview in the South Tower shakes my soul, to watch from the 59th street bridge in helpless horror as the city shut down, chaos in the streets and only the sound of walkie talkie, sirens, radios talking about the Pentagon attacks and the roar of military planes overheard. How I fell to my knees in sheer grief as the towers tumbled.

But to witness the unified front to SURVIVE & Stay Alive is something I am most proud of. How everyone helped each other..the rich, the poor and all in between. For the animals owned and abandoned who received extra special care. How every store opened its doors to feed the hungry and every hotel lobby became a rest stop for the sick, weary and shaken and a contact point to call loved ones far away..

How buses, trucks and even limos became free cabs to anyone who needed a ride home. My heart filled with pride for the human spirit as I walked barefoot through 3 boroughs and two bridges to the Bronx to get home to my babies, praying every step of the way.NYC became New York United. I didn't even intend to write all this, if at all but I am glad I did. I wanted to share this with you as I know so many of us have been affected. feel free to post a comment or a moment in honor of 9/11. We will never forget;-)

Peace and Blessings, Andrea

Natural Inspirations-New Listings and Peacock Stems

Hey Family,
If anyone has the first album by Neo-Soul Artist India Arie- You will see her standing with her back turned holding a fan of peacock feathers behind her back. I got inspired and wanted to take apicture of me holding my man made stems in a similiar fashion.

I just listed some new Spring Green Peacock Stems in my Nyblaque shop.

Since the molting season is out for the farm -raised peacock feather I purchase from upstate new york and other organic sources, the feathers listed as made from man made materials and dyed with organic color fast dye. There are no animal tested or animal by products used to create the feathers.I don't know how they do it but the feather like soooo real in person are very good quality and come with easy care instructions.

I love the color contrast from yellow -green to lime green on some of the stems I have.

I even picked up some "swords" very cool;-)

I had a Mardi Gras moment when I laid out all the stems I have together. The Purple, Blonde, and Green look great together;-)

Speaking of color, I love pine cones and colored leaves- this was a nice decor mix I picked up from Michael's Craft Store.

I had no idea the colors would inspire me to create these necklaces:

I put together a wood embellishment disk with a nice Anaku tile pendant bail and a simple chain. Simple and  easy;-)

Channeled my inner Tao with this necklace:-) I love the shape of these Picture Jasper beads- I didn't know wheither to make the Ying Yang sign or the Pisces for Feb/March- so I made one of each LOL!

have a happy Thursday,

Be Well,

Ny

Simple Sunday... An interesting morning..

Hey Family, you are probably wondering what the bucket is about....

Is that>>> Yup it's snow- the gross city type I always talk about..I love snow, don't get me wrong just not snow in the city. It's so polluted from the grit and grime that it gets all dingy looking pretty fast. But this is snow I collected from my apt window!!!
That's so not cool..a clear indication of how drafty the windows are- after complaining and asking for new windows, I finally have proof to show management I mean business -this is a health hazard.

Thank God for the central heating system but what if it didn't work we could have easily frozen overnight from the cold blistering jigh winds while we were sleeping. Not mention the water damage to the paint and hardwood flooring... I collected all this snow from the living room and two bedrooms. It had to be several pounds worth.

So I am sending these to management with this message.Yes, I would love a white Christmas but If that doesn't work- then I sending them to NYC Housing & Preservation Department to file a complaint. I bet I'll get new windows as an X-mas present lol!!

Just something sadly funny I wanted to share. What did you wake up to today?

A Milestone Accomplished -My 500th Etsy Sale

When 2009 began , one of my persoal business visions was to achieve at least 500 sales as part of my financial presentaion portfolio with Project Enterprise in order to apply for a Small Business grant from NYC Small Business Solutions Entrepreneurial Assistance Program.

I cannot tell how much this means to me as a seller on Etsy that 500 customers said YES to handmade/artisan shopping or simply chose an artisan shop for simple crafting/jewelry supplies- whatever the reason it is a huge support to the indie community and I am proud to one of those shops to provide such a service.

Thank you much to all my supporters, blog readers, Facebook Fans, fellow Twitter Friends, family friends for all your promotions, mentions, interviews, prayers, words of encouragement and love-I hope I made you all proud;-)

and of course my greatest fans my customers- I wouldn't be here without you -THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! and last but certainly not least, my children you are my rock, heart, soul and my driving force-your light is my beacon of life. Love you forever, Mom;-)

Congratulations to Adornyourself.Etsy.com from Canada for becoming my 500th customer! She will be getting a gift certificate from my shop worth $50.00! Special Thanks to DigitalMisfit for featuring my shop in her new "Handmade Holiday Series" on her blog. She posted my shop news way before I got a chance to LOL!! Thanks Heidi!. A special shout to http://thesoapseduction.blogspot.com/ for your faith in me girl! & TimothyAdamDesigns for giving me my very first spotlight and endless bounds of help and encourgement. Love Ya Both!

Thank you for visiting and as always,

August Rush Part 1

So what's Summer in NYC like in
August??

Hazy- Haunting & Humid!!!

The humidity from the trapped air and blocked out sun from all the skyscrapers in Manhattan is something else!

For many of us it's haunting as the loss of our crown jewel, the World Trade Center included the loss of alot of loved ones. During the summer months alot of sailing, boat shows, tourist boat rides and sporting events happen along the city's waterways. For many it's an everyday reminder commuting by water taxi or ferry to work across the Hudson from New Jersey and Staten Island

This is what the summer skyline SHOULD look like and this is how I will always remember it. I LOVED those towers! Whenever I traveled out of NYC the Towers were the first thing you would see coming back up north by car, bus or train..to me they were the beacon that let me know I was home. XOXO WTC.

HOT!!

Oh the festivals, concerts, fairs, shows and outdoor events come into full..SWING in August!! I think it's the best month to get in on the summer action-but plan to stay awhile cause you'll have a laundry list of things to do!-But then again, it's always hopping here in the city;-)

Healthy

Move over carnica cotton candy and hot dogs! Farmers Markets are in town and ripe for the picking. The summer harvest from Upstate NYC is bursting with organic mid summer fruits, green leafy, squash, berries, applies, plums, cider and soooo much more!! YUMM!!!

Heavenly

After all the heat and humidity is gone- some of the most photogenic and amazing sunsets can be viewed right here along the city boardwalks, beach shores and even the highest balconies and terraces. Plus the nights give into the pre-Autumn cool winds that lull you to sleep every time. I get a rush off August in NY.
